Edna Iturralde is considered Ecuador’s
most important figure in children’s and
young adult literature. With thirty-eight
books published, she has attained
significant international recognition,
being nominated in 2012 for the
ALMA Prize (Astrid Lindgren Memorial

international prizes for children’s
literature.
Georgina Lázaro León is a Puerto
Rican poet whose work is focused
on children. Among other awards,
she received the Pura Belpré Honor
in 2010, presented to “a Latino
writer and illustrator whose work
best portrays, affirms, and celebrates
the Latino cultural experience in an
outstanding work of literature for
children and youth.”
Adela Basch is one of the most
