Warm-Up/ Independent Starter

Have students describe with two adjectives each
of the characters depicted on this page.
Preparation

Read aloud the words in the
Más vocabulario
feature and have students repeat them after you.
Then do the same with the highlighted words on
the page. Point out that many of these new words
are defined in the reading (e.g.,
amistoso
=
con
muchos amigos
). For those words that are not
defined in the text, use body language or point
to images on the page that will help students
comprehend their meaning.
Activities

Before playing the audio, give students a couple
of minutes to look at the pictures and think of
words that describe each of the characters.
Then play the audio and have students
complete the activity. Were their descriptive
words used in the audio? Which ones?
14.
If students have no favorite comic book
character, ask them to invent one. This fictitious
character should have a name, some special
personality traits, and be accompanied by an
illustration that shows other students what he
or she looks like. Then have students use this
as their model and complete the activity.

EXPANDING LEARNERS
•
Have students play a game of “Guess
Who” in Spanish. They will use the
Mafalda
characters and the characters on these
pages as their list of characters. In pairs,
both students will choose one character.
Then they take turns to ask and answer
yes/no questions about the physical
characteristics or personality traits of the
character. For example:
