EXPANDING LEARNERS
Have students use the Internet to find a
Peanuts comic strip. Ask students to use the
picture of the
Mafalda
characters on page
12 to compare their physical characteristics
and personality traits with those of the
Peanuts characters. Tell students to pay
special attention to the main characters of
the comic strips, Charlie Brown and Mafalda.
Ask students to compare and contrast their
physical characteristics and personality traits.
DEVELOPING LEARNERS
Have students make comparative statements
between two animals of their choice, such
as an elephant and a mouse or a cat and
a dog. You may display photos to generate
comparisons. Then have students make
superlative sentences about the animals,
such as the most dangerous, biggest,
smallest, or smartest. If students have
difficulty making comparative and superlative
statements, model the process for them.
Point out the parts of the sentence that
indicate a comparison. Then have students
write their sentences independently.
