Read the text aloud, pointing out the key
words as you come across them. Reinforce
concepts by drawing a circle on the board
and dividing it in four equal parts. Tell
students that the circle is a pancake, and then
shade half of it. Ask:
If I ate half the pancake,
how much would be left?
(one half) Next,
shade one of the remaining quarters, and ask:
If you ate another quarter, how much of the
original pancake would be left?
(one quarter)
Shade the remaining quarter, and ask:
What
do four quarters equal?
(one whole)
