About the authors…

Alma Flor Ada

is the award-winning author of more than 200

books for children. She is also a poet, storyteller, educator,

mother, and grandmother. With a Ph.D. in literature and a

lifelong love for stories, Ada has mastered the art of retelling

traditional folktales and nursery rhymes from across Latin

America. She’s won several awards including the 2000 Pura

Belpré Award and Ohtli Award in 2014. A native of Cuba who

has also lived in Spain, Peru, and the United States, Alma Flor

Ada writes poetry, picture books, and novels that offer rich,

multicultural perspectives for all children.

F. Isabel Campoy

Is the author of numerous children’s books

in the areas of poetry, theatre, stories, biographies, and art.

She is an educator specializing in the areas of literacy and

home-school interaction, topics on which she lecturers

nationally. She is the recipient of numerous awards, among

them the Junior Guild Award, ALA Notable Book Award, San

Francisco Library Award, and the 2005 Reading the World

Award from the University of San Francisco.

que mi hijo haya trepado por esa planta,

pero nunca antes había desaparecido

por tanto tiempo. Estoy preocupadísima

porque anoche no llegó a casa.”

planta, pero la Sra. Blanco insiste en

que no hay que tocarla. “No dejaré que

nadie la corte”, declaró. “Si mi hijo ha
