two volunteers to read the text aloud. What do
students think about the challenges?

Ask students to get into pairs and read the
dialogues on page 15 to find out what the
participants think about the challenges. Discuss
with students the participants’ reactions.

identify any false cognate in the text, say what
it means, and explain how it might be confused.

particulares
in Andy’s dialogue and
brainstorm with the class other words that he
might have used to convey the same meaning:
especiales, singulares, propios
. You may want
to point out the other meaning of
particulares

matter).
Particular
also means “peculiar.” Finally,
particular
is often used in expressions such as
este trabajo no tiene nada de particular
(there’s
nothing special about this job). Have students
compare and contrast these meanings with the
word
particular
in English.

and explain how they would complete the
challenge.
CRITICAL THINKING

Ask students to think about the challenges
for this unit. Have them explain why the
challenges begin with

continue with

, and end with
una leyenda
. Remind them to think about
what kind of preparation is involved for
each challenge and the skills necessary
to accomplish the task. Have students first
write their ideas on a sheet of paper. Then
ask volunteers to share their ideas with the
class.
