SPECIAL-NEEDS LEARNERS
•
For students with difficulties staying focused
while reading long passages, copy the
conversation between Michelle and Daniel
onto copy paper and cut the conversation into
five parts: one part for each exchange. Then
pair up students to read the parts together,
exchange for exchange. Once students have
finished, have them mix up the exchanges
and try to put the conversation back together
into one single piece of paper. You can leave
these students in pairs as they complete the
rest of the activities on this spread.
HERITAGE LANGUAGE LEARNERS
•
Have students create a dialogue between the
detective and the murder suspects. Students
should include questions the detective
would ask and answers appropriate for the
suspects. Remind students to keep in mind
what has been said about the actors (i.e.,
one is jealous, the other is angry), and any
other reason someone might have for killing
the actor. Then have students present their
dialogues to the class.

To expand this activity, have students think of
other words or phrases that define the words
in column A. For example:
divertido: gracioso;
cortés: con buenos modales, considerado;
reservado: tímido; fiel: leal, alguien en el que
puedes confiar; celoso: envidioso.

After finishing this activity, have students
work with a partner. Each partner will create
a similar exercise: a descriptive paragraph with
key words left out, and a list of these words
(but not all in the correct form). Partners will
exchange papers and complete each other’s
paragraph.

Have students work in small groups and role-
play what is being depicted in the illustrations.
Allow groups to rehearse their lines and have
them come in front of the class and represent
their drama.
